1.Night by Elie Wiesel
I read this book for class and was blown away. Definitely one of my favorite historical books. Such a powerful message about cruelty and human minds during suffering. In class, we discussed a lot about Elie’s paternal relationship with his father and how his faith changes over the book. Man’s inhumanity to man is such an interesting and horrifying topic, but it is a great discussion topic and needs to be talked about.
2. Armada by Ernest Cline
I was very disappointed with this book. The plot felt unrealistic and stagnant, it needed a bunch of edits. I felt like Ernest slopped a bunch of words on a page and turned it in. It has so much potential to be great but it failed to grasp me and pull me into the story. Zach Lightman is a boring character, I would be more interested if the story was about the dad. But, I did like the ending when they realized (SPOILER) that this was a test for Earth. It answered the mystery, which was the only reason I finished reading this book.
3.Between The Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys
FAVORITE BOOK OF THE MONTH BY FAR! Ruta has phenomenal writing skills. The book takes place during the time of World War Two, but it sang a different tune. It was about the Lithuanian relocation. I can’t even imagine what Lina felt. (SPOLIER) I was surprised when her mother died, they were so close to freedom! I also couldn’t believe an American ship came by and didn’t help them! Stalin was so cruel, but this story of perseverance is a strong one with a powerful message.
4. After You by Jojo Moyes
A couple months ago, I read Me Before You by Jojo Moyes, and this month I read the sequel! Although I found some things unrealistic, (i.e. Lou falling off a building, Will’s surprise child, and Ambulance Sam’s almost death) this was an enjoyable read. I like how Jojo continued with the story so we could see how all the different character’s cope with death. The writing is superb, almost lyrical. If you love Me Before You give this a go!
What did you read this month? Any recommendations?
Thanks for reading!! Make sure to check out my other reading wrap ups!
