Top 3 Things To Do in Melbourne, Australia

February 18, 2017

The city of Melbourne is upbeat, young, and full of energy. It is a great place to take a quick stop and experience the everyday life of a local Australian. An underrated city with tons to offer, if you are traveling Australia and looking for a place to relax but still explore, this is the city! Here are five must see things to do and see when you visit this beautiful place!

  1. Melbourne Cricket Grounds

Cricket is a huge sport in Australia. To put things in perspective, Cricket is to Australia as Football is to United States. The Melbourne Cricket Grounds (MCG) is one of the best places to watch a game and enjoy the atmosphere. The best way to get here is either to walk or use the free trams around the city. While I was here, Australia played Pakistan and it was a great game to watch because of the competition. Cricket matches sometimes take up to 5 days, so keep in mind you’ll only be able to watch half of it. During an inning break, head outside and play a pick up game of Cricket. Yarra Park is right outside the MCG for kids and adults to play. This is a must see landmark of Melbourne and you can’t leave Australia without seeing a cricket match!

2. Eureka Sky Deck

Admire the city scape from the tallest building in Melbourne! This 360 degree viewing area shows every angle imaginable of this beautiful city. Try to spot the Australian Open Grounds, the MCG, the art centre, Flinder’s Station, Yarra River, and the Royal Gardens! Most of the landmarks are labeled on the glass, so it is easy to see. In the background are mountains that rise over the city, and the ocean on the far side of the city is vast. There is an outside viewing platform that is best for pictures, I recommend visiting the Sky Deck either first thing in the morning, or right before it closes at 4pm. See more information here.

3. Flinders Street/ Federation Square

Check out the center of Melbourne, Flinder’s Street. Admire the bustling atmosphere, the enormous architecture of the Train Station, and the Cathedral across the street. Tons of shops and markets dot the street and pedestrians mill around enjoying the city. The easiest way to get here is to take the tram. Other things nearby is the Art Centre across the bridge and the Royal Gardens right next to the Yarra River.
